We sometimes may have to do some things since we are not in a majority muslim country – but still we must evaluate the outcome.
Can someone tell me what goodness comes by us closing our own shops as a show of protest?
We keep telling ourselves we are not islamic – I beg to differ. Saying this repeatedly makes people loose hope. this is not true and this is not good.
Compared to 30 years back Muslims in Srilanka have become very islamic – may not be 100% but certainly we are much better than what we were. And people are learning, practicing much,and are aware of Allah’s qadr much better than long ago. Most of all and we are being attacked for THIS VERY REASON.
One of the main reasons – other than planned attack on muslims – is the fact that Muslims have become a segregated community and paradoxically this has happened because of the increase in Islamic knowledge and practice among us! those days Muslims will go to drinking, dancing, gambling and mixing up with opposite sex just like the non muslims. But now muslims have become segregated from all these but unfortunately also failed to explain to the non muslims why we do what we do – or do not do what they do – as we see from the writings of many non muslim intellectuals.
of course I am not saying we must go to the state we were in- may Allah forbid- but we have to make efforts to educate the non muslims about Islam.

I gave one to someone who wanted a copy for she asked many questions why we spit into their food, whether we stand on a hot iron to slaughter the animals etc; today she said she has already has read 50 pages and found it very interesting – contrary to what even our muslims will do when they get a copy for the first time.
we are not interested in conversion -we cannot convert anyone unless Allah He himself gives them the hidayath. But it is important we convey them the message what Islam is about.
